The Kingston Regional Heritage Fair Committee has determined that it is necessary to cancel the 2020 Fair scheduled for May 14 at McArthur Hall, Queen’s University, Faculty of Education. The decision was not made lightly, but we believe that we have a social responsibility to do our part in preventing the spread of COVID-19. The current climate of uncertainty, coupled with the federal government’s recommendation to avoid large gatherings and to practice social distancing, and the provincial government’s decision to declare a state of emergency that includes closing schools for at least two weeks beyond March break and potentially longer have further solidified our belief that cancelling the Fair is the best course of action. The committee recognizes that all of the Heritage Fair work that has already gone on in classrooms this year has provided students with valuable learning opportunities. We encourage students to find other ways to celebrate the work they have done and to be proud of what they have learned! The KRHF will continue to support your classroom work with enrichment workshops as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime students are encouraged to showcase their excellent research projects digitally on oursharedstories.ca and/or http://kids.canadashistory.ca/Kids/YoungCitizens/About. Contact us at info@krhf.ca if you need more information. Thank you teachers and students for your dedication to preserving our diverse history and heritage. We also wish to thank all of the sponsors, in-kind donors, community heritage groups and volunteers that have partnered with the committee in the past and present. The Fair would not be possible without your support. Connecting our students with their community is and will continue to be a top priority for the Fair committee and we look forward to working with you next year.
