Volunteers Needed
The Ontario Heritage Fairs Program is driven by volunteers. Each year, over 3,000 people across the province lend their time and talents to produce 17 Regional Fairs for Ontario students. Some volunteers serve on planning committees, while others act as judges, group leaders, workshop presenters, and/or general assistants. For the Kingston Regional Heritage Fair alone, more than 100 volunteers are needed annually to make the fair a success. If you would like to lend your support to this year's fair, please complete and submit the volunteer form.
Volunteer Descriptions
Project Judges:
Judges will receive a short training session at the beginning of the day. Throughout the day, they will judge 5-6 projects by speaking with the student and examining his or her project board/research. Afterwards, project scores are tabulated to determine prizes/medals. (Note: We are looking for both English judges and French judges)
Group Leaders:
Group Leaders will gather the students in their group at the beginning of the day, shepherd them to their activities, and supervise them while they are taking part in their activities. Group Leaders require a valid CPIC, complete with a vulnerable sector check.
Set-Up/Take-Down Crew:
Set-up and Take-down crew will help prepare the space for the fair, help move and set-up equipment during the day, and assist with clean-up when the fair is over. (Note: All fair members will assist with Set-Up/Take-Down in some way).
Doorway and Parking Attendants:
Doorway and Parking attendants will help parents and Heritage Fair members to find parking at the beginning and end of the day. They will also be responsible for welcoming fair participants at the entrances at the beginning of the fair, and at the awards ceremony.
Runners:
Runners will assist committee members during the Fair day by carrying messages between stations and delivering judging results or other supplies to the appropriate recipients.
Registration Desk:
Registration desk volunteers will help fair participants check-in at the beginning of the day and set-up their projects. For the rest of the day, they will either remain at the front desk to answer questions or assist the Runners and Set-up/Take-down Crew.
Photographers:
Photographers will circulate throughout the fair to take pictures of the projects and activities. All pictures will become the property of Kingston Heritage Fair for fair promotion. Photographers will require a valid CPIC, complete with a vulnerable sector check.
Board / Committee Members:
We are always looking for help and new ideas for the Kingston Heritage Fair. You can be involved at either the Board level or serve on one of the various committees. If you would like to be involved in the planning and operation of this or next year’s fair, please let us know!
